The focus here is to generate returns to investors by acquiring yearlings at the major European sales in the autumn for development, preparation and sale at ‘breeze-up’ sales the following spring, when they are two year olds. This is a period of time when the thoroughbred undergoes a significant period of development, physical and mental, and the difference in value they can fetch over this six-month period can be significant. It is not unknown for example for a yearling’s value to increase between three and tenfold over this period.
We buy yearlings whose conformation, breeding and potential suggests they can be developed well over the winter and who are likely to be sufficiently ‘forward’ as two year olds to ‘breeze’ well. This type of horse always has a commercial value, not least of which because it will be ready for the racetrack soon after its sale.
Although we will sell all our horses as two year olds – and before they start racing – our aim is to become a recognized and established vendor of good quality horses. To this extent, so we will always be looking for the type of horse that will go on and develop further once its racing career starts.
